Julia DiBenedetto

ANIMATOR AND VISUAL EFFECTS ARTIST

About Me

I am a student at Drexel University majoring in Animation and Visual Effects in the Westphal College of Media Arts and Design, set to graduate in June 2024. I have always had a passion for expressing my creativity and the idea that my work could have an impact on someone else. I have been able to succeed in that mission through creating content for publishing companies, studios, Nonprofits and by creating medical animations. In my free time, I often enjoy music, baking, and spending time with friends and family. I am ecstatic about my future in visual effects, post production, and motion graphics and cannot wait to continue my journey.

Experience

Through my time at Drexel University I have been able to gain valuable experience through the Co-Op program as well as the Drexel in LA program.

The most recent position I held was as a Graphics and Video Editor Co-Op at DotDash Meredith, the largest digital and print publisher in the United States. In this position I collaborated with editors and producers to create editorial content for international brands such as InStyle, Travel and Leisure, and Better Homes and Gardens. Additionally, I used Premiere Pro to organize video footage and made initial edits to videos for online publishing as well as generated thumbnails for many videos through Photoshop. I also created motion graphics templates in After Effects to be used in several published video series. I am very grateful for this experience to learn how to tell different stories through editing and graphics for a wide variety of different audiences.

In the Summer of 2022 I interned at Framework Studio as a Visual Effects intern. In this position I assisted the VFX supervisor with animation, rotoscoping, compositing, tracking, and editing in several projects for commercials and films. I also collaborated with team members and well as other departments on creative ideas and layouts. This was a great experience that taught me so much about how to create motion graphics and visual effects for commercials, television, and films.

In my second Co-Op I worked for Drexel University’s Microbiology & Immunology department. I had the privilege of creating 3D models and animations for a video game that would be played by patients of a clinical trial to better understand what was going on in their body. I translated medical drawings and diagrams to 3D models and rigged, textured and animated these assets in Maya. I also developed content including pre-production, animation, and post- production to be used for education through After Effects and Photoshop. This past fall, this video game CRISPR Cutout won the Silver Medal at the International Serious Play Awards. It is truly amazing to see that a project that I worked on has been able to provide help and support to people going through a difficult time.

For my first Co-Op, I worked as a Videographer and Photographer for a Philadelphia Nonprofit called Sharing Excess. This company has the brilliant idea of collecting food from grocery stores and restaurants that is set to be thrown out and distributing the still fresh food to people in need. In this position I created storyboards, filmed, and edited videos for publication on their website and social media. I also provided creative insights and ideas for social media and website marketing strategies. I also captured, edited, and assembled photographs and videos for a national awreness campaign. Overall this was a great experience that taught me many valuable skills as well as allowed me to make an impact on my community.
